I have baked tofu in the past, but never after marinating it. So now I know. My mistake. This is much better than just baking the tofu with seasoning on top. Now I know how to bake tofu like a pro, and you can too!
My recipe called for liquid smoke, tamari, and garlic powder. I omitted the liquid smoke, and I substituted low sodium soy sauce for the tamari. After draining the tofu I cut it into about 9 pieces.
How simple is this mise en place? Just 3 items!
Sliced or diced tofu
5 Tablespoons of low sodium soy sauce or tamari
1 teaspoon of garlic powder

I baked it in the oven for 15-20 minutes, then flipped it and baked for an additional 15-20 minutes.
I was worried it would be too salty, but it wasn’t. The tofu was soft, but not mushy. It’s size and smell of cooked marinade gave the plate the illusion of meat.
I could use the tofu in wraps or on a salad too. It would work cut smaller on kabobs or in an appetizer.

I served it with rice and marinated tomatoes – forgot to garnish!
