I was walking through the produce department in Jungle Jim’s International Market one day and saw some individual packs of chocolate hummus. The next time I went back I couldn’t find it so I decided it can’t be that hard to make.
I combined and tweaked the recipes I found online to come up with one that has no added oil or tahini and is low in sugar.
Chocolate Hummus
1 15 ounce can of garbanzo beans
2 Tablespoons of plant milk
2 Tablespoons of maple syrup
1 Tablespoon of nut butter (peanut, almond, or cashew)
3 Tablespoons of cocoa powder
4 Tablespoons of water
1/8 teaspoon of sea salt
Blend all ingredients in high powered blender until creamy. Add water in small amounts if needed.
What can you eat with chocolate hummus? We eat it with fruit, – like strawberries, apple slices, grapes. It makes a great sweet and salty combination when eaten with pretzels. Sometimes we spread it on a piece of toast,
I haven’t seen it in the grocery store since that first time, but I am pretty sure if I looked hard enough I could find it somewhere. Now I don’t have to. It is so easy to make and when I make it at home I know exactly what is in it.
