Is Added Oil Affecting Your Health?

Have you heard the buzz about plant-based eating to lower cholesterol levels? Then maybe you have also heart of plant-based eating with no added oil too. It is true that plant-based eating can have powerful affects on our cardiovascular health especially when also focusing on eliminating added oils from our food.

Salad dressings are often a source of added fat calories. Why ruin a perfectly healthy salad by pouring on a fat filled dressing? Instead consider a balsamic vinaigrette dressing with no added oil.

Here is one I like to make:

Balsamic Vinaigrette NO Oil

1 cup of water

1/4 cup of balsamic vinegar

2 Tablespoons of chia seeds

3 cloves of garlic

1 pitted date

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 teaspoon Mrs Dash (or other no salt seasoning)

1/4 teaspoon dried oregano

1/4 teaspoon dried parsley flakes

In a blender or food processor, place all ingredients and blend until smooth and creamy. Store in refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 10 days.

Feel free to add more vinegar or adjust seasoning to personalize the dressing to your tastes. Once you start building your own salad dressings you will feel more confident in your ability to create a balsamic vinaigrette without added oil that is all your own!
